Kiteboard Flysurfer Shot - review by Leguan
Flysurfer recently expanded its lineup with another board model called Shot. This 135 cm board got under my feet in excellent conditions, where I could really play with it and focus on riding details.
From the very first meters of riding, it was clear to me that this board would be an interesting and well-designed piece. The longer I rode it, the more positive surprises I discovered.
At first glance, the board looks like a nicely curved deck with a symmetrical shape and shorter fins for a more aggressive riding style and possibly even wakestyle. When you handle it, you're surprised by the combination of very low weight and relatively stiff flex.

Riding Feel
During the first start, I immediately felt comfort and a smooth ride under my feet, with slightly increased drag, although I expected even more from such a curved board. The balance between smoothness and responsive feedback is tuned very well. The board glides beautifully through chop, doesn’t bounce, and cuts through short sharp waves despite its low weight. Overall, the ride feels very stable, smooth, and easy. At the same time, I could still subtly feel even the smallest wave through my feet and had very precise feedback about what was happening underneath and how the edge was holding in the water. And it practically doesn’t spray water into your face at all!!!

Edging
Edge hold is very good and, most importantly, perfectly readable and predictable, which is great for less experienced riders and for quick progression without unnecessary failed takeoffs caused by edge release and slipping. The edge holds beautifully, and when you start approaching the limit where it might slip, the board gives you clear and timely feedback by slightly easing the edge. The edge begins to give a little but still holds in the water and keeps the track. It’s as if it’s saying: dig in more, or I’ll slip soon.
FLYSURFER Shot also behaves differently depending on how you distribute your weight between the front and back foot. If you load your back foot heavily while edging, the front third of the edge lifts out of the water, while the rear part digs deep and holds firmly. This is ideal for aggressive riding and takeoffs into jumps with a powered kite. On the other hand, if you want a relaxed, long freeride session or just give your back leg a rest between jumps, simply slow down a bit and shift more weight to the front foot. Almost the entire edge settles nicely on the water, the board reduces drag, and starts pointing upwind a bit more.

Jumps
In lighter wind, I struggled to get good pop for higher jumps, and it felt somewhat underwhelming. However, the FLYSURFER Shot really shines where other boards reach their limits—during takeoffs at higher speeds with a powered kite. The secure and predictable edge hold translates into extra meters of jump height. Harder landings are nicely absorbed by the stiffer and more curved board, which forgives quite a lot of mistakes.

Who is the FLYSURFER Shot for
The Shot is an ideal board for ambitious, more advanced kiters who enjoy riding powered with a small, lightweight board—an ideal combination for big air and airstyle. It also delivers solid performance in freeride, especially in choppy conditions, and handles wakestyle reasonably well. It’s a board that won’t disappoint an aggressive rider, but thanks to its smooth ride in chop, it also serves well for relaxed freeriding and for kiters who may struggle with knee pain in choppy water after injuries.

Overall Impression
The FLYSURFER Shot kiteboard is a pleasant surprise for me, and in my opinion, it’s currently the most successful FLYSURFER board aimed at ambitious, more aggressive riders, while still being easy enough for complete beginners to get started on. During testing, I encountered almost only positives in all aspects, except for slightly increased drag while riding. In light wind, it lags a bit behind flatter freeride-oriented boards such as the FLYSURFER Radical. Therefore, I wouldn’t recommend it for light-wind freeride, but for everything else, yes—it handles a wide range of conditions and riding styles with ease and at a high level.
You’ll get the most out of the FLYSURFER Shot when paired with kites like Era, Heli, Soul, Sonic, or similar big air and airstyle-oriented kites.
See you somewhere on the water, Leguán
